30th Birthday Cake Idea

This birthday cake is the perfect adult birthday cake idea for a 30th birthday or even a 21st birthday (or older!)

There are so many mini alcohol bottle options so you can choose the birthday boy/girls favorite drink bottle to top it with.

I made this cake last minute and was originally planning to have a professional have it done for me, but I was running out of time and decided to give it a go.

Plainly said, if I can do it then YOU can do it and likey better.

Here's how to make this simple 30th birthday cake.

Bake your cake

I usually bake all my cakes from scratch but I wanted to make my life easier this time around so I purchased a Betty Crocker chocolate cake mix.

You can choose whatever flavor you'd like for the cake. Otherwise if you prefer to bake a cake from scratch you can check out this recipe.

I baked my cake in three 6 inch round baking pans. Let it cool completely.

I used this chocolate buttercream recipe to stack the cakes up on top of one another.

Then, I went on to frost my entire cake with this white buttercream frosting recipe.

I recommend doing a crumb coat layer (which I didn't do).

Then its time for the chocolate drip.

Chocolate Drip Recipe

  • 3 oz semi-sweet chocolate chips*
  • 2 oz Heavy Whipping Cream*

Pour ingredients in a pyrex measuring cup and use it as a double broiler inserting it inside a medium pot of water on the stove top. Alternatively, you can heat it up in the microwave.

Add more cream if needed to get to the right "drip" consistency.

*This recipe made more than enough for my 3 layer 6 inch cake. Double the recipe for a larger cake.

Chocolate Drip

(For best results chill your frosted cake before proceeding. I didn't and it was more difficult to work with)

Using a spoon I began in the back side of the cake to test out the consistency and to practice without ruining the front of the cake.

I angled the spoon on the top edge of the cake and let it drip down along the side.

For longer drips simply pour more of the drip alongside the cake, for shorter drips pour less off the spoon. Keep dripping all around the cake alternating with more and less of the chocolate drip.

Add some chocolate drip through the whole top part of the cake carefully spreading evenly.

Decorate Cake

Add small pearl shaped sprinkles all over the top.

Add chocolate pieces. You can use Ferrero Rocher, Hershey's, Milk Duds, Oreo's, or any other small treats you'd like to add. Leave some space for the mini alcohol bottles.

Finish it off with the mini alcohol bottles. I used two.

Conclusion

That is all! Let me know how your cake turned out!
